Our Story and History
About Rebuilding Together Hudson Valley
Over 34 years of warm, safe and dry homes
Rebuilding Together Hudson Valley (RTHV), formerly Rebuilding Together Dutchess County, was founded in 1991 when local construction manager Ron Stein brought the Christmas in April program to Dutchess County—establishing the first Rebuilding Together affiliate in New York State. Incorporated in 1992, the organization evolved alongside the national movement, becoming Rebuilding Together Dutchess County in 2006 and expanding its service area to include Ulster County in 2024 as Rebuilding Together Hudson Valley.
Our first National Rebuilding Day, held on April 25, 1992, brought together more than 350 volunteers to repair 11 homes and renovate the Gannett House Homeless Shelter. With the continued support of local corporations, unions, community partners, and dedicated volunteers, RTHV has grown steadily to meet increasing community need.
Over the past 34 years, Rebuilding Together Hudson Valley has completed critical repairs and accessibility modifications for more than 1,121 homes, engaging over 14,500 volunteers to ensure neighbors can live safely, independently, and with dignity in the homes they love. We are proud to have reinvested over $8.6 million in our community!
